The Sila Samadhi program at Palmy Buddhist Vihara is a mindfulness and precept-observance practice designed to help participants experience calmness and realize the benefits of the Buddha’s teachings while celebrating significant Buddhist events on each month’s full moon day (Poya day). It supports the entire community in the Manawatu region by encouraging practitioners to adopt the monks’ way of life and deepen their understanding of the Buddha’s teachings. Participants engage in mindfulness exercises that improve their daily lives.
This program promotes positive mental health and wellbeing through Buddhist meditation and offers counseling services that address antisocial behaviors based on Buddhist principles. It fosters racial harmony and peaceful coexistence among New Zealand’s diverse communities while encouraging moral and ethical values for the betterment of society.
Conducted by the resident Saá¹…gha, the program provides laypeople with the opportunity to observe precepts, participate in Dhamma talks, chanting, meditation, and group discussions led by resident monks. Open to all, regardless of prior Buddhist experience, this program plays an essential role in promoting ethical living and spiritual growth within the community. The Palmy Buddhist Society Incorporated coordinates and facilitates all requirements for participants.
