Rooted in the ancient traditions of Sri Lankan culture, the Buddhist temple serves as the central gathering place for the community during cultural events and festivals.
Representing this tradition in Palmerston North is the Palmy Buddhist Vihara. We plan to introduce cultural workshops and organize events aimed at making the Sri Lankan community feel a strong sense of belonging and connection to their heritage.
The Palmy Buddhist Society will coordinate key events on the calendar, including the Wesak Festival, Poson Festival, and Ves Poya as religious and cultural observances. Additionally, there will be cultural celebrations such as the New Year Blessing in January, the Traditional New Year celebrations in April, and the Sinhala and Tamil New Year Festival.
Workshops will be conducted on Sri Lankan arts, crafts, cooking, music, and traditional dance. Moreover, we welcome individuals from all communities to engage in research and learning about Sri Lankan culture, traditional dance, music, and the Sinhala language.
