The Buddhism, Language, and Cultural School warmly welcomes younger generations to grow with strong ethics and values rooted in the Buddha’s teachings, alongside an appreciation of Sri Lankan culture and language. The Sri Lankan Language and Cultural School offers opportunities to learn Sinhala, one of Sri Lanka’s main languages, and gain a deeper understanding of Sri Lankan cultural heritage. Its mission is to enhance the quality of life for young Sri Lankans in Christchurch through meaningful education.
In partnership with the Dhamma School, the program focuses on nurturing knowledge of Buddhism, the Sinhala language, and Sri Lankan cultural values among youth. The curriculum highlights essential cultural traditions and supports students in deepening their understanding of the Buddha’s teachings, mindfulness, and ethical conduct. This foundation strengthens their resilience, helping them navigate life’s challenges with calmness and maintain happiness.
Classes are open to young children within the Sri Lankan community and to children from other backgrounds interested in Sri Lankan culture and Buddhism. The teaching staff comprises resident monks from Palmy Buddhist Vihara and dedicated volunteer educators.
